Industries of the Blind wins $17.3 million defense logistics contract
The Greensboro nonprofit that employs blind and visually impaired workers will handle warehousing and distribution for all four military branches through July 2027.
GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA — Industries of the Blind Inc.has won a $17.3 million contract modification to run military warehousing and distribution through July 2027.
Here is the full post on war.gov: “Industries of the Blind Inc.,* Greensboro, North Carolina, has been awarded an estimated $17.3 million modification (P00018) exercising the second one-year option period of a two-year base contract (SPE1C1-23-D-0059) with five one-year option periods for warehousing, storage, logistics, and distribution functions. This is a firm-fixed-price with economic-price-adjustment, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract. The ordering period end date is July 10, 2027. Using military services are Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. Type of appropriation is fiscal 2026 through 2027 defense working capital funds. The contracting activity is Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.”

The firm-fixed-price agreement includes an economic-price-adjustment clause and functions as an indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity vehicle. The Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps will draw on the warehousing, storage, logistics and distribution work funded through fiscal 2026 and 2027 defense working capital funds. Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support in Philadelphia manages the contract.
Industries of the Blind is a Greensboro-based nonprofit founded in 1933 that employs blind and sighted workers across manufacturing, assembly and distribution (see greensboro.org). The organization employed 136 blind and 111 sighted people as of September 30, 2025, and reported total assets of $26.5 million (see Google). It belongs to the network of National Industries for the Blind, the nation’s largest employer of people who are blind, which supplies government agencies through the AbilityOne program (see nib.org).
This is the first contract awarded to Industries of the Blind Inc.in 2026, bringing the company’s total contract value for the year to $17.3 million. It is the 21st Department of Defense contract awarded in North Carolina during 2026.
The award is not the largest ever granted to the company, whose record stands at $26.8 million. It falls between the 2026 Defense Logistics Agency portfolio’s year-to-date minimum of $9.3 million and maximum of $1.5 billion. The award was announced among 10 Department of Defense contracts issued nationwide on July 10, 2026.
