WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald Trump shared a photo of a highway sign directing drivers to the airport bearing his name on a Truth Social post on July 11, 2026 at 7:17 AM EST.

The sign is part of the renaming of Palm Beach International Airport to Trump International Airport, which took effect on July 9, 2026. Crews began replacing the Exit 69B signs on Interstate 95 in South Florida in early July, ahead of the formal renaming ceremony (see irishstar.com). The name change has drawn scrutiny because the governing agreement includes trademark provisions with private companies tied to Trump. A copy of the agreement shows Trump’s companies will not receive royalties from branded merchandise sold at the airport. A non-exclusivity clause, however, may allow Trump-affiliated businesses to sell airport-branded items off-site for profit (see irishstar.com).
Trademark attorney Josh Gerben raised concerns about a provision requiring any retailer selling products with the airport’s name to purchase those products from entities designated by a Trump-affiliated licensor. “That’s also unusual,” Gerben said. “Normally, a license agreement says that the goods have to be of a certain quality. It doesn’t say that you have to purchase them from a retailer that we’re approving them from” (see irishstar.com). Critics have argued the arrangement may conflict with the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution. Palm Beach County administrators and Trump’s companies have said the trademark structure shields the county from lawsuits rather than generating private profit.
The airport renaming is one of several public branding initiatives tied to Trump’s presidency. The Kennedy Center was briefly renamed before a judge ordered the change reversed, ruling it required congressional approval. National park passes for 2026 feature Trump’s face alongside George Washington’s, and Trump’s image is set to appear on U.S. paper currency (see irishstar.com).
