WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald Trump demanded that a federal prosecutor reopen a vandalism case at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, claiming fresh evidence shows deliberate cuts spanning 300 feet or more.
Trump directed his call at Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, who he said made a hasty decision on the matter. He tied the case to a man he described as a major player in ActBlue Co., Ltd. Class A and to attorney Norm Eisen, escalating a long personal feud into a criminal accusation.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro should re-visit her hastily made decision, especially since it turned out that the “gentleman” involved is a big player in ActBlue Co., Ltd. Trump built his case on a claim by Andrew Leyden, who posts under the handle @PenguinSix. Leyden said cuts in the expansion joints on the side of the Reflecting Pool became visible after the National Park Service removed a fence that had blocked the view since June. A contractor reported the damage to Park Police as vandalism, Leyden said, but photographs were not possible until the fence came down. The images show close-up views of joints in the stone and pavement, marked with white spray paint and small marker flags.
The stakes reach beyond a single stretch of stone at one of the nation’s most visited landmarks. A reopened federal case could target the individual Trump named and draw Eisen and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, known as CREW, into a criminal dispute. Trump also questioned the tax status of the watchdog group, an allegation that carries no formal finding.

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, completed in 1922, stretches more than 2,000 feet between the memorial and the World War II Memorial on the National Mall.
