Donald Trump praised Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and touted the U.S. economy in a Truth Social post after the G20 Finance Ministers Meeting in Asheville, North Carolina. Trump described the talks as productive, thanked Bessent for representing the country, and urged other nations to follow the U.S. lead on taxes, regulations and energy.

Scott Bessent leads the U.S. Treasury, whose mission is to maintain a strong economy, foster economic growth and create job opportunities for Americans, according to mcc.gov. He has spent 40 years in the global investment management business, visiting 60 countries and interacting with international leaders and central bankers. Bessent previously served as chief executive officer and chief investment officer of Key Square Capital Management, a global hedge fund focused on macro investing that he founded in 2015, according to mcc.gov. Before that, he was chief investment officer of Soros Fund Management and taught economic history as an adjunct professor at Yale University.

Trump also invoked the man he called Sleepy Joe.Joe Biden served as the 46th president of the United States from 2021 to 2025 and previously as a Delaware senator from 1973 until 2009 and as vice president under Barack Obama from 2009 to 2016, according to politifact.com.
