Donald Trump said the United States is striking Iranian Targets near the Strait of Hormuz, describing the assault as large and powerful in a post on Truth Social. Trump framed the strikes as retaliation for what he called a failed Iranian attempt to mine the waterway and for missiles fired at a U.S. base in Jordan.

Here is the full post on truthsocial: “The United States is, as we speak, striking Iranian Targets near the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes are large and powerful, and in retaliation for the Iranians’ failed attempt at adding sea mines to the Strait, which currently has no mines (They have been completely removed or detonated!), and the Iranians shooting eight missiles, all successfully knocked down, at our Military Base in Jordan. If the failed Nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level, but it will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran! Trump” on September 1, 2026 at 3:39 PM ET.

This is Trump’s 15th message released today, and the last post was 6 minutes ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 70 of his 656 posts over the last 30 days classified as Foreign Policy posts.

Trump claimed Iran fired eight missiles at a U.S.Military Base in Jordan and said forces knocked down all of them. He also claimed the Strait of Hormuz has no mines because crews removed or detonated them. Those casualty and outcome details come from Trump’s post and remain unverified in the allowed corpus.

The Strait of Hormuz has anchored the U.S.-Iran conflict as a central flashpoint. The U.S. military said it conducted a six-hour wave of strikes in multiple locations to “degrade Iran’s ability to threaten innocent mariners” in the Strait of Hormuz, according to bbc. U.S. Central Command said the strikes targeted command centres, air defence sites, and coastal surveillance facilities across Iran, including the port city of Bandar Abbas and Greater Tunb Island, according to bbc.
