CHESAPEAKE, VIRGINIA — Burns & McDonnell-Jacobs MIDLANT M C JV, a Chesapeake, Virginia, engineering joint venture, received a $95 million architect-engineering contract to design projects across Marine Corps bases in the Carolinas, the Department of Defense said on July 31, 2026, as announced on war.gov.

The firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery contract runs up to 60 months, with an expected completion date of July 2031. Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Mid-Atlantic awarded the deal after a competitive process that drew eight offers through the SAM.gov website. The work spans multi-discipline design services at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, at 40%; Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina, at 20%; Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, at 20%; Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, at 10%; and Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, at 10%.

The Navy issued a first task order of $10.1 million for field investigation covering four new buildings and sites at Cherry Point. Fiscal 2024 military construction funds of $10.1 million were obligated at award and will expire at the end of fiscal 2029. Future task orders will draw primarily on military construction and Marine Corps operations and maintenance accounts. This marks the first contract recorded for the joint venture and the 19th Defense Department award in Virginia during 2026, according to war.gov.

Military design work at these bases carries deep historical roots. Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune opened in 1941 and grew into one of the largest Marine installations, spanning roughly 156,000 acres along the New River. Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island has trained recruits since 1915 and processes tens of thousands of enlistees each year. Sustained federal investment at both sites has kept construction and engineering contractors returning to the Carolina coast for generations.
