Donald Trump demanded that the Federal Reserve Board slash interest rates, pointing to a strong August employment report as proof the U.S. economy warrants cheaper credit.

Trump said employers added 162,000 jobs in August and argued that a stronger country deserves the lowest borrowing costs in the world. He tied the demand to trade, warning he would halt commerce with nations that run surpluses against the United States.

Here is the full post on truthsocial: “Great jobs number just announced, breaking all estimates (except mine!) by double and triple – And you haven’t seen anything yet! EMPLOYERS ADDED 162,000 JOB IN AUGUST. Lower the interest rates because the U.S.A. is a much stronger credit than it was just a short time ago! A STRONG COUNTRY MEANS A LOWER INTEREST RATE – IT’S A BETTER CREDIT…Very simple! We should have the LOWEST RATE of any country in the World, like “the old days.” Without the United States agreeing to allow them their big surpluses, and we could stop that immediately, they would no longer be considered financially ELITE! LOWER THE RATE OR I’LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT, which the U.S. Supreme Court, in its ridiculous and very costly Tariff decision, strongly acknowledged “the President” has an absolute right to do. ITS BETTER THAN TARIFFS!The Fed Board, with its great new leader, must get smart – BE PATRIOTS for a change. High interest rates put the U.S.A. at a very unfair disadvantage, and I won’t allow that to happen! Trump” on September 4, 2026 at 9:41 AM ET.

This is Trump’s 3rd message released today, and the last post was 33 minutes ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 27 of his 617 posts over the last 30 days classified as Economy posts.

Trump framed lower rates as a reward for economic strength and cast a trade cutoff as a tool better than tariffs. He referenced a Supreme Court tariff ruling, saying it acknowledged the president holds an absolute right to stop trading with deficit countries. He called on the board members to act as patriots and singled out the board’s leadership for praise.

The post did not specify a date for any Federal Reserve decision, and the board sets policy on its own schedule.
