Trump says Walmart will cut ground beef prices nearly 15% for America’s 250th birthday
Trump says the retailer is lowering prices “at my Administration's request” and urges other companies to follow Walmart's lead.
WHITE HOUSE — Donald Trump announced that Walmart will lower prices on ground beef and other products ahead of the nation’s 250th birthday, on a Truth Social post on July 6, 2026 at 3:45 PM EST.
Here is the full post on [truthsocial]: “Great news! I have just been informed that one of the biggest, best, and smartest Retailers in America, Walmart, will be lowering prices, by a lot, at my Administration’s request to celebrate our great Country’s 250th birthday. Walmart will, in particular, be dropping the price for a pound of ground beef by almost 15%, among many other products. This is a huge deal for the many millions of Americans who, smartly, shop at Walmart, which is a truly patriotic Company who loves the U.S.A. My Administration is lowering prices that Joe Biden incompetently raised with the worst inflation crisis in history, a total disaster along with the Southern Border, the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, and many other failures. Just as I promised, Oil Prices are plummeting FAST, and Gas Prices at the pump are dropping too, just like egg and Prescription Drug prices which I am bringing down by historic levels. Walmart is stepping up in a big and bold way, and other Retailers should follow the lead of these absolute Patriots. Together, we will make America stronger and greater than ever before! Trump”
Trump said Walmart would cut the price of a pound of ground beef by almost 15 percent, describing the move as coming “at my Administration’s request” to mark the country’s semiquincentennial. He called Walmart “a truly patriotic Company” and urged other retailers to follow its lead, saying the price reductions would benefit “many millions of Americans” who shop at the chain (see truthsocial).
The post also touched on broader economic claims. Trump said oil prices are “plummeting FAST,” gasoline prices at the pump are falling, and that his administration is bringing down egg and prescription drug prices “by historic levels.” He contrasted his record with that of former President Joe Biden, whom he blamed for “the worst inflation crisis in history.”
Trump linked the inflation discussion to other policy areas, citing what he called Biden’s failures on the southern border and the withdrawal from Afghanistan. He signed the post “Trump” and closed with a pledge to “make America stronger and greater than ever before.”
Walmart has not independently confirmed the scope or timing of the price cuts described by Trump. The retailer is the largest grocery seller in the United States and serves tens of millions of customers each week, meaning any broad pricing shift could have a significant effect on household budgets across the country.
