Donald Trump promoted lower prices for drugs, beef and gas as he lined up a fall affordability message before Labor Day, framing cheaper consumer costs as a win heading into the midterm elections.

The pitch follows a new round of voluntary Most Favored Nation drug-pricing agreements the president announced at the White House. The effort aims to lower prescription costs for Medicaid and cash-paying patients through the TrumpRx platform, according to justthenews.

This is Trump’s 2nd message released today, and the last post was 3 hours ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 24 of his 649 posts over the last 30 days classified as Economy posts.

Under the Most Favored Nation framework, participating manufacturers agree to offer U.S. prices aligned with the lowest prices charged in other high-income countries such as Canada, European nations and Japan, according to justthenews. The latest batch is expected to involve companies such as Bayer, Takeda, CSL and several mid-size biotech firms, with agreements that typically include lower prices for federal and state programs and direct patient access through TrumpRx, according to justthenews.

Prior deals covered 17 major drugmakers, which the White House has credited with contributing to the steepest annual drop in U.S. prescription drug prices in over 60 years, roughly 3.1% year-over-year, according to justthenews. The expanded initiative added agreements with nine additional pharmaceutical companies, bringing the total to 26 manufacturers representing about 89% of the branded drug market for conditions including cancer, Parkinson’s and liver disease, according to justthenews.

TrumpRx.gov is what came out of all the most favored nation drug pricing negotiations, and 80% of the drugs you pick up at a drugstore, they’re right there on TrumpRx.gov,” Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, told Just the News. “And no longer will one in three people walk out of the pharmacy empty-handed because they couldn’t afford the medication,” he said, according to justthenews.

Gas prices offered drivers a measure of relief after weeks of elevated costs, with the national average for regular gasoline dipping about 3 cents over the past week to roughly $4.01 to $4.08 per gallon, according to justthenews. Prices stayed elevated because of disruptions tied to the Iran conflict and pressure on global oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, according to justthenews.

The lower prices put Republicans in a better position to motivate voters going into the midterm elections in November, according to justthenews. A little over two months out from the vote, the administration is casting cheaper costs to stay healthy, eat and travel as a central campaign argument, according to justthenews. Trump made the case directly by mentioning the source (see justthenews) in his post.
