— Head coach Tevita Tuifua spoke with quiet pride after the announcement, calling the selected players a group that carries the heart of Tongan rugby.

He said many of these men have fought through tough seasons overseas and local club games to earn this call-up, and they understand what pulling on that red jersey means for their families and their islands.

The forward pack looks solid, with veterans like Siegfried Fisi’ihoi, Adam Coleman, and Lotu Inisi leading the way, alongside hookers Sam Moli and Jay Fonokalafi. In the backs, Sonatane Takulua, Augustine Pulu, Patrick Pellegrini, and Pita Ahki bring plenty of Test experience, while exciting outside backs such as Taniela Filimone and Anzelo Tuitavuki add pace and flair.

At the press conference in Nuku’alofa, coach Tuifua faced a room full of local journalists and family members of the players. He kept it straightforward, talking about the challenges ahead against teams like Samoa, Canada, and others in their pool.

“We have some big names missing because of club commitments, but this is an opportunity for others to step up,” said Tuifua. “These boys are proud to wear the Ikale Tahi jersey. We train hard, we play with heart, and we want to make our people back home proud. The Nations Cup is about building for the future while respecting the legacy of those who came before,” he said.

One of the selected players, lock Veikoso Poloniati, shared a quick word with reporters afterward, his voice thick with emotion. “This means everything to me and my family. Playing for Tonga is not just a game; it’s who we are. We will leave nothing on the field.”

The squad will now head into preparations with high hopes for a competitive showing in the tournament. Fans across Tonga and the diaspora are already buzzing with excitement for what the Sea Eagles can deliver this campaign.
