Donald Trump has mentioned the source (see townhall) that he is launching what he calls a “holy war on communism” after far-left candidates won New York elections, on a Truth Social post on July 5, 2026 at 10:26 AM EST.

Here is the full post on [truthsocial]: “Trump Declares Holy War on Communism in Latest Speech: https://townhall.com/tipsheet/josephchalfant/2026/06/26/trump-declares-holy-war-on-communism-in-latest-speech-n2678393”

Trump described the rise of what he called “Mamdani-aligned politicians” in New York as “the most serious threat to our country since its existence.” He said he had “waited and prepared” for a resurgence of communists “for a long time,” and warned that the mainstreaming of communist ideology would bring greater persecution of Christians (see townhall).

“These are not social Dumocrats, these are hard core, godless Communists,” Trump said. “Isn’t it ironic, we’re celebrating a very important Birthday, and instead of speaking about Christ, Freedom, and Victories of all different kinds, we’re speaking about yet another threat to the Foundations of America.”

Trump also argued that communism is deceptively attractive to voters. “Communism is very easy to sell,” he said. “I’d be the Greatest Communist in History. I’d give free rent, free houses, free food, everything is free. Unfortunately, after two or three years, the Country where this is taking place would fail.”

He blamed Democratic leaders for allowing radicals to gain power, accusing them of cowardice. “They’re afraid they will lose their Election, they’re afraid of conflict. They’re not smart enough or tough enough to fight this plague,” Trump said (see townhall).

The speech drew immediate parallels to Trump’s use of religiously charged language in other policy areas. Rep. Jared Huffman and 29 other House members have separately asked the Defense Department’s inspector general to investigate whether military officials are using “biblical end-times prophecies” to justify the war in Iran (see house.gov). Critics have raised concerns that the administration’s blending of religious rhetoric with political and military objectives blurs the constitutional separation of church and state (see washingtonpost.com).

Trump’s remarks came days before the United States was set to celebrate its 250th Independence Day anniversary, a milestone the president invoked repeatedly in his address. “Communism really is the past, and FREEDOM is the FUTURE,” Trump said. “All we want is freedom. Freedom gets you everything.”

In the last 30 days, 74 of 499 Trump posts on Truth Social addressed the topic of foreign policy, according to a Zenger analysis of all posts on the platform.
