Trump Vows Supreme Court Appeal After Court Blocks White House Ballroom Project

Trump condemns an appellate ruling against the White House ballroom and security complex as a national security threat and pledges an immediate Supreme Court appeal.

WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald Trump vowed to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court after a federal appeals court declined to clear the way for a security and construction complex at The White House he calls vital to national defense.

Trump describes the project as a single integrated unit combining a ballroom with bomb shelters,Top Secret Military Facilities and blast-proof glass. A court injunction still blocks the work, and the appeals panel affirmed that order. Trump said the decision has been stayed and does not take effect immediately, giving his administration time to seek review from the nation’s highest court.

“This was a blatant abuse of discretion,” wrote Judge Neomi Rao in a dissent quoted by Trump, adding that “the district court had no jurisdiction because the TRUST Holdings Inc.has no standing to stop construction at The White House.”

The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 15 of his 470 posts over the last 30 days classified as Legal posts.

The dispute centers on the legal doctrine of standing, which requires a plaintiff to show a concrete injury before a court can hear a case. Trump argued the plaintiff TRUST Holdings Inc.has no standing to halt construction at The White House. He cited Rao’s dissent to frame the majority as engaging in judicial overreach. The panel affirmed an injunction that pauses work on the complex, and the stay keeps that pause in effect while the appeal proceeds.

The stakes fall on multiple parties. Trump said the complex protects those who work at The White House, future presidents and their families, visiting Heads of State, and members of the public who tour the Executive Mansion. Harry Truman gutted and rebuilt the mansion’s interior between 1948 and 1952 after engineers warned the structure was near collapse, forcing his family to live across the street at Blair House. That reconstruction cost roughly $5.7 million and remade the building from the inside out. Truman left office in 1953 with the project completed and the residence structurally sound for the presidents who followed him.
