Donald Trump, the 47th U.S. president, said his party holds a commanding financial edge over Democrats less than 100 days before the November midterm elections.

The Republican National Committee reported more than $128 million in cash on hand at the end of June with no debt, according to justthenews.com. The Democratic National Committee held about $16 million in cash and roughly $18.5 million in debt, leaving it in the red, according to justthenews.com.

“Cash is king: Washington Republicans bankroll midterms as National Democrat coffers are in the red,” Trump wrote by mentioning the source (see justthenews).

This is Trump’s 7th message released today, and the last post came moments ago, and it is not part of a thread. On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 130 of his 482 posts over the last 30 days classified as Elections posts.

The cash gap raises the stakes for both parties as they fight for control of Congress. Republicans enter the final stretch with deeper reserves to defend their majorities in advertising and voter outreach, according to justthenews.com. Democrats face steeper challenges on those fronts and lean on individual candidate fundraising to stay competitive, according to justthenews.com.

Democratic candidates are still pulling in money despite the party committee shortfall. The Democratic-aligned platform ActBlue Co., Ltd. Class A raised $586 million for candidates in the second quarter of 2026, including $215 million in June from 573,000 first-time donors, according to justthenews.com. Trump raised funds for the RNC this week, headlining a closed-press event at his golf club in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, where tickets reportedly started at $15,000 and reached as much as $150,000, according to justthenews.com.

Spending advantages usually decide congressional races. The higher-spending campaign wins about 91% of the time, driven by incumbency and the ability to saturate airwaves and mobilize voters, according to justthenews.com. Voter priorities center on the economy, with a Pew Research Center survey in July finding 29% of registered voters most wanted candidates to discuss economic issues, according to justthenews.com. That figure ran far ahead of immigration at 7% and health care at 5%, according to justthenews.com.

The financial imbalance would shape what the average voter sees this fall, from television ads to door-knocking operations in battleground states. A cash-rich party can flood local airwaves in the closing weeks, when many undecided voters make up their minds.

This has happened before. In 2016, Hillary Clinton and allies raised over $1.2 billion, roughly twice Trump’s $600 million, yet he prevailed, according to justthenews.com. Trump-endorsed Ken Paxton defeated John Cornyn in the 2026 Texas Senate primary runoff despite being outspent about 10-to-1 on ads, according to justthenews.com.

Voters will render the next decision at the ballot box in November, with primaries in Michigan, Kansas, Missouri, Virginia and Washington already setting several matchups, according to justthenews.com. A precise date for Election Day certification has not been announced.

A money advantage in American elections is not new territory for either party. In 1896, Republican operative Mark Hanna raised an estimated $3.5 million for William McKinley, dwarfing the roughly $300,000 gathered by Democrat William Jennings Bryan. Hanna built the first modern fundraising machine, pressing corporations and banks for contributions and flooding the country with pamphlets. McKinley won the White House that November and served until his assassination in 1901.
