The donation was made through the Invest America program, a public-private initiative established by the Invest America Act and signed into law by Trump. The law created Trump Accounts, privately owned investment accounts seeded with $1,000 in stock for every American child from birth. The program launched on the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding.
Gwynne Shotwell, who serves as president and chief operating officer of SpaceX, said in a post that the gift targets children ages 11 to 17 living in areas with lower average household incomes. “My husband and I are honored and thrilled to participate in the Invest America program and gift a share of our SpaceX stock to a Trump Account for each of more than two million children across our great nation,” Shotwell said. She added that the donation places additional emphasis on children living near the couple’s central Texas home.

The Invest America Act envisions trillions of dollars compounding in the accounts over the next 20 years. Each account is intended to provide children with resources for education, a first home, or starting a business. The program permits private citizens and corporations to make additional contributions to any child’s account beyond the initial $1,000 government seed.
Shotwell’s $325 million gift represents one of the largest single private contributions to the program announced so far. SpaceX, which remains a privately held company, has grown into one of the most valuable aerospace firms in the world through its reusable rocket technology and Starlink satellite internet business.
