Trump says he approved $3.4 million for South Dakota storms and granted $1.7 million to the Oglala Sioux Tribe, asking Governor Larry Rhoden to inform the tribe.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald Trump said he approved $3.4 million in federal disaster relief for South Dakota after severe storms, winds, tornadoes and flooding, and granted an additional $1.7 million to the Oglala Sioux Tribe.
Trump said he informed Governor Larry Rhoden of the funding during a phone call and asked the governor to relay the tribal grant to the Oglala Sioux Tribe. He described South Dakota as a special place he won by wide margins three times.

Born in 1959, Rhoden grew up on the family ranch in rural Hamlin County, South Dakota, according to westgov. He served in the South Dakota National Guard from 1978 to 1985 and in the South Dakota House of Representatives from 2001 to 2008, spending four years as majority leader, according to westgov. He later won a seat in the state senate after being term-limited, according to westgov.
Rhoden served as House Majority Leader and chaired both the Senate and House State Affairs Committees, according to governor.sd.gov. He worked with then-Representative Noem to reform property taxes and led efforts to repeal the so-called “Trucker’s Tax,” and his work earned him the American Conservative Union’s highest ranking in 2017, according to governor.sd.gov. He and his wife, Sandy, have four sons and ten grandchildren, according to governor.sd.gov.
