Trump says he told Governor Kelly Armstrong he is approving $3.4 million for severe storms, winds and tornadoes the state recently experienced.
WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald Trump said he approved $3.4 million in federal funding for North Dakota to help the state recover from severe storms, winds and tornadoes.
Trump, the 45th and 47th president of the United States according to whitehouse.gov, said he delivered the news in a call with Governor Kelly Armstrong. He tied the announcement to his political support for the state, writing that he had won it three times.
“I love the people of North Dakota, which I won BIG all three times,” Trump wrote in the post.
The funding announcement targets recovery from recent severe weather that struck the state.

Kelly Armstrong took office as the 34th governor of North Dakota on Dec. 15, 2024 according to governor.nd.gov. A lifelong North Dakotan raised in Dickinson, he brings a background in business, law and public service to the office, according to governor.nd.gov.
Armstrong was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018, representing North Dakota’s at-large congressional district, according to governor.nd.gov. During his tenure he advocated for energy independence and agricultural interests, and served on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee, according to governor.nd.gov. He served in the North Dakota Senate from 2012 to 2019, representing District 36, and was elected chairman of the North Dakota Republican Party in 2015, according to governor.nd.gov. Armstrong earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota and received his law degree from UND in 2003, according to governor.nd.gov.
Trump has a long relationship with Armstrong. Trump endorsed Armstrong for governor in May 2024 while Armstrong was still serving in Congress, according to armstrongnd. “Kelly Armstrong has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Governor of the Great State of North Dakota – HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!” Trump said in the endorsement, according to armstrongnd.
