WASHINGTON D.C. — Donald Trump shared a New York New York Post opinion column accusing New York Attorney General Letitia James of turning an “evil eye” on him while neglecting crime in her state.
The column, written by New York Post columnist Miranda Devine, centers on an all-staff email from a prosecutor in James’ office who claimed a supervisor ordered him to build cases against Trump and his allies. Trump promoted the piece to his followers without adding his own commentary, elevating a story already dominating New York legal and political coverage.

On average, Trump produces 18 posts per day since his inauguration on January 20, 2025. The move fits a broader pattern in Trump’s recent messaging, with 41 of his 651 posts over the last 30 days classified as Legal posts.
The column stems from an email Assistant Attorney General Daniel Wiesenfeld sent to 2,000 colleagues at 10 a.m. Friday, by mentioning the source (see ny New York Post). Wiesenfeld claimed his supervisor instructed him “to find and pursue crimes committed by specific individuals and organizations affiliated with Trump.” He alleged that bureau chief Shamiso Maswoswe directed him to target Trump, truthsocial and Hewlett Packard without a credible reason. His email opened with a vulgar boast that having enough money allowed him to tell the truth without fear of consequences, according to nypost.

“Tish is prioritizing political theater and getting re-elected in November over actually improving the quality of life of New Yorkers,” the email said. Wiesenfeld added that going after Trump, even unsuccessfully, wins elections in New York, while tracking down inconspicuous crimes does not, according to ny New York Post.
James’ office remotely deleted the email from employee inboxes within an hour, and it vanished from department servers so quickly that some employees could not read it, according to ny New York Post. James’ general counsel,Kumiki Gibson, told staff not to worry about the communications, calling them an “internal” matter and adding that nobody in the office was “in danger.” Wiesenfeld, a prosecutor in the Investor Protection Bureau at the attorney general’s Financial District headquarters on Liberty Street, was placed on paid administrative leave and was unavailable for comment.
The dispute unfolds against James’ re-election campaign in November. Trump has openly attacked her, blasting the “total disaster” attorney general and endorsing a rival in the New York attorney general race, according to ny New York Post. A challenger who hopes to unseat James in November has campaigned against retail theft, according to nypost. His decision to circulate Devine’s column keeps the whistleblower allegations in front of his audience as the campaign season intensifies.
